Sit back, enjoy some popcorn, and unwind with this week’s Featured Artist Sparkiz. The full-time freelance artist hails from Jember in the East Java region of Indonesia; he has created deceptively “simple and cute” designs shaped by intricate and thoughtful details. His self-described “traditional art with an Asian touch” is accented by “soft colors” and will be sure to connect with audiences everywhere.

Sparkiz, or Kriz Ahmadi, jokes that his “main enemy” for art is laziness and that he must actively push himself to work on his creative projects. However, when he is finding it hard to work, he turns to meditation or nature to help clear his head. He reveals that “creativity is everything to me” and that he loves the DBH “ecosystem” because it is filled with talented artists who challenge him to grow.

Kriz finds inspiration in “many places and many ways” including watching movies and television. He loves creating designs that connect with people the way a well-written film can; he wants to make his audience feel as if they’ve watched a movie that lingers in their memories for years to come. One of his greatest goals is to create art that appeals to “all circles and all people.” He believes that art is about making a connection with the world; he wants to create something with staying power that is not “eaten by time.”
