Trashgoods’ classic black and white designs are an amusing contradiction to the comically foreboding “Some Bad Days” theme evident in his graphics of skeletons, poisonous snakes, and a severed hand giving a thumbs-up sign. Trashgoods’ style is a fun reminder that there can be humor in everything – even when you least expect it.

He initially recognized himself as an artist when he landed his first “major contract” because it was only then that he understood “I could create for a living.”

Trashgoods lives on the Southern California coast and can’t imagine ever wanting to leave the vast state.

He concentrates his business on three key clients: a donut shop, a brewery, and a casino; and he savors how each contract is “very different, very fun” and lets him create diverse and entertaining designs. His artwork is inspired by “vintage advertising & signage” which he finds helpful to “clear my head” during a creative block.

Trashgoods maintains a sense of humor in his life and his art. In fact, his favorite piece of art is one his wife discovered in Berkeley, CA that unites the Loch Ness monster, Big Foot, and aliens. He says. “it’s bananas and kinda the best.” He also reveals that if he had a time machine, he would love the chance to meet “Gustave Doré. Just to watch the madness.” Trashgoods admits that he is “a podcast addict” and that there is always something from Earwolf or MaxFun playing in the background while he works. He understands the importance of maintaining a balance between work and play in his life.

Trashgoods’ philosophy – and the best advice an artist can receive – is “just to start” and try not to focus on if it seems “totally bad and wrong” because the hardest part in the creative process is often the beginning. Follow in Trashgoods’ steps and “just start” to see where the process leads you.
