Where are you from?
MD: I was born in Canada, but I have lived most of my life in Sardinia, a beautiful Mediterranean island, where I live and work.
How would you best describe your art style?
MD: My illustrations are the synthesis of what I see every day; I don't like keeping a rigid style, I often like to change and follow the inspiration and the mood I have at the moment when I start drawing.
Where do you find your inspiration when creating your art?
MD: I look at everything around me, I like to look at new collections from great street clothing brands, but I also follow many independent brands. I'm inspired by the covers of old punk albums, tattoo illustrations, as well as movies and comics. I always participate in online competitions; it challenges me on topics that I don't usually deal with, it gives me a lot of inspiration!
When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world?
MD: Art is part of my life. I have always loved drawing, and when I had the chance to choose my schooling, I enrolled in Artistic High School. Later, I graduated with a degree in graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts. When I started to do street art, I opened a shop where I printed in my own silkscreens on Paper and T-shirts then sold them in several stores of Sardinia.
How does art impact your day to day life or your impression of the world as a whole?
MD: For me art is fundamental in our lives, I really like spontaneous street art, which I think has revolutionized the concept of art by adding to it a new value.
What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how to you start your creative process?
MD: I work on my own, and I do a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, I can't live only selling my artistic work, so instead of spending whole days devoted to the artistic process, I dedicate my free time to that, and I try to draw every day when I have time. If I don't have any ideas, I'll usually take out a piece of paper and start to draw, I'll look at some books or do some internet research, and usually something comes out!
When you're not creating, what do you like to do with your time?
MD: In addition to drawing, I like spending time on video editing and composing electronic music; I also love to go to the beach and go out and drink beer with my friends.
What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why?
MD: I admire a lot of artists, some of the artists who inspired me most in the last years are Banksy for his way of expressing concepts, Aryz for his drawing style, Ed Roth for the rough style I've always loved and used a lot in my work. But there are so many more; I just said the first three that came to mind!
What's the best advice that's been given to you as an artist?
MD: Surely the best advice someone gave me was to carry on with my passions and never stop, even if you are not on an easy road. To always believe in my dreams and not let myself be swallowed up routine life and forgetting what I really love doing.
