Q: Where are you from? I'm an inner city girl from Sydney, Australia
Q: How would you best describe your art style? I started out creating grungy abstract kind of abstract designs, but now I am concentrating on more minimalist, clean, contemporary art.
Q: Where do you find your inspiration when creating your art? Mostly I get inspiration from the juxtaposition of nature and my changing urban surroundings, but I look a lot at different interior design trends and what people are putting on their walls, trending colours in pantone, things like that. I love getting out and about with my camera too, taking nature and architechtural photos to use in my artwork.
Q: When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world? I've always had a creative career - I can't do anything else! Fresh out of art college I starting screen printing my own fabric and making them into clothes in my garage studio, going on to designing and making one off pieces for clients, then began a career in the music industry, working as a dance music consultant for a record company then becoming a nightclub DJ and putting on underground dance parties and DJ mixing competitions. Then I got serious about life and became a graphic designer in the corporate world for many years, before coming to my senses and starting my own business Urban Epiphany, creating my own artwork and selling it online. It's now my full time career and I've never been happier!
Q: What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how to you start your creative process? I start my creative process really early in the morning. At around 5 or 6 am when it's still dark outside I sort through my endless list of ideas and settle down to create something new. I turn my phone off, I don't look at Facebook, I ignore my emails and completely focus on what I want to achieve. I know exactly what I want to do and work on that until I have created something that I am happy with. I listen to music all the way through this process, deep house turned up loud, it helps me concentrate :)
Q: What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why? I admire all artists really, past and present - you have to have courage to create and show your work, passion to keep doing it, and faith in yourself that you are heading in the right direction.
Q: What's the best advice that's been given to you as an artist? Don't give up. Believe in yourself.
