Q) Where are you from?

In present world-wide political context I want to say with bold letters, I am from planet Earth. Political leaders want to build walls to separate us one from each other. This is not the direction we should be going.

People origins, skin color, beliefs are used as discrimination. WTF?! Unbelievable! Hey world, Middle Ages are far behind us! I hope one day humanity will understand we all seek peace and love, no matter the culture or place we come from. We forget about this too often, treating the other like an undesirable alien. I know something about that as I was born in Poland under communist times. My land of adoption is France.

I had an idea recently: There are something like 196 countries in the world now, so I thought I could specify 196 different origins on platforms I am present on, to remind myself all the time that this planet's richness resides in its diversity. I shall never forget it, and neither should anyone else. Wanna follow?

Q) How would you best describe your art style?

I have no style just like Bruce Lee who had no specific style in his martial arts, haha. I adapt to the art style for each of my concepts. I find trying lots of different art techniques expands my horizons and I've learned a lot from this experimentation. Constantly getting out of my comfort zone pushes me towards new visual discoveries.

Q) Where do you find your inspiration when creating your art?

Anything can trigger an idea for my next design. My everyday life is full of inspiration: music, films, images from press, books, TV, social media. A bit too much of stimulation I would say. It ends up being chaotic noise, and it is hard to concentrate on one particular image or concept. I try to switch off the surrounding noise as often as I can. But when one source switches off another is immediately replaced by another. My brain acts like a mixer that is permanently combining & breaking associations between ingested snippets. I have more ideas in my head than I am able to draw or paint.

The hardest part is making the right choice and sorting all concepts correctly. The second step, lying down ides, is much easier. Right now, I often fail in the sorting process, but apparently this is the best way to master art (or whatever else).

Q) When did you know you wanted to make a career in the art world?

I’ve started to create in 2013. Specifically illustrations, designs for fashion and home decor. Then in 2014 I spent lots of my nights drawing and experimenting, thinking about it more seriously. Three years later I am still considering myself kind of new in this field.

What's very cool and encouraging is that I have been awarded a couple of times on DBH being featured in the Design of the Day and my drawings are featured in DBH collections. Other feedback on my art is also very positive, with a few grand prize wins in various challenges, propositions of cooperation, etc. Thousands of tees sold worldwide, thousands of likes on some designs of mine. For example, people got pretty crazy on my Tumblr blog about "They Made Us" (33K likes) - I have lots of requests for tattoos with this design.

The next step is to go 100% into my art, but the financial side of it needs to be reevaluated in order to be viable. All the love I receive from the interwebs means so much, but if I fail on monetizing my art...until then I keep my other jobs.

Q) How does art impact your day to day life or your impression of the world as a whole?

When you choose to be an artist you are all in it with your mind, body and soul. This is not a job that starts at 7 am and only lasts for 8 hours and once you take off your suit and tie and you're able to forget about it. With art you are constantly working. I think about my illustrations all the time. Then it can sometimes be hard when you find yourself within a society where everything is defined very precisely. Artists are dreamers, and not surprisingly artists are seen as having their heads in the clouds. Following established rules or systems is not for me.

Q) What does a day of creating artwork look like for you and how to you start your creative process?

My creating process never stops. Each day I just continue from where I previously stopped. I sort through ideas in my head. If I want to catch up on time, I do not sketch ideas. I go into the composition immediately with no prepared sketches. If there is an idea I do not want to overwrite and forget, I just make a short note. For example for my illustration called "Chillin (Flamingo Tiger)" - I simply wrote: tiger, inflatable flamingo, summer, chilling.

Q) When you're not creating, what do you like to do with your time?

Outdoors activities and traveling. Photography, photography, photography! Cooking — I could spend hours observing how the food is transforming itself under the intense oven heat into something yummy. And photography again. Oh I’ve almost forgotten, my unfulfilled love is sounds. I do manipulate sound samples from time to time. Q) What artist (either current or past) do you most admire and why?

There are plenty of artists I admire from various art fields and eras. I’ll mention one artist today, Tomi Ungerer. I love his style and humor. His books for kids are splendid, posters and drawing for adults marvelous. He has the ability to be very clear, precise in the concept and final visual effect. His simplicity is striking, multi-leveled in meaning, very powerful, and often hilarious.

9) What's the best advice that's been given to you as an artist?

I've read something on a forum once that sounds approximately like this: "Mastering your art will be like running a marathon rather than a sprint. Be enduring." And since I briefly mentioned Bruce Lee above, so let’s get a cool quote from him: “Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system.”
