It’s time to stretch out under the stars with DBH artist EpisodicDrawing. The dreamlike designs – with their serene watercolor style – capture the “strangely wonderful” moments at night that make us feel like any dream or aspiration is possible. EpisodicDrawing, or Lea Yunk, shares that there is “something about a dark night” and that her art highlights the magical quality, the mysterious beauty, and the fragile hopefulness that is only possible during a quiet night of reflection under the stars.
EpisodicDrawing describes herself as a “full time mother, professional hugger, and part time artist” living in beautiful Singapore. Her artwork centers around natural elements, symmetrical patterns, a pop of color on a dark background, and “a simple, clean atmosphere.” Still, her greatest inspiration is undoubtedly the natural beauty that she finds in her tropical home. She reveals, “I am constantly surrounded by and reminded of the beauty of nature every day.” The sounds from the nearby woods are like “spiritual energy coming from the deep dark forest” and this magical quality is evident in her vibrant designs. She loves to describe her art as a cataloging of the “magical events of the night that happen quietly without anyone noticing – like a firework that’s silent.”
She confesses that as a full-time mother she dedicates much of her time to her three children. Nevertheless, EpisodicDrawing is proud that “despite the years of hiatus from art” that she has been able to reconnect with her creative passion. She admits that she works slower than she would like and “I find myself defeated when I see other artists who zip through works of art.” However, she has learned to be patient with herself and is now comfortable with her pace and creative process. She encourages other artists to “try everything you can try, every medium or style you want to experiment with.” She, too, is excited to try new styles and expand her creative pursuits so that she can share the “magical energy I feel from the nature” through her art.
