Featured Artist Update: Ppmid
If you’ve had a long stressful day then you might just need a little comfort food and a whole lot of comfort art when you get home! Pour a glass of wine, enjoy that second scoop of ice cream, and indulge in DBH artist Ppmid’s designs. Ppmid turns even the most bleak situation into a delightful one with heartwarming visions like an opossum’s “funeral” or a skeleton enjoying a day at the beach. Long-time DBH artist Ppmid continues to lift our spirits with adorable reminders that even the darkest moments can make you laugh.
Ppmid, or Pepe Rodriguez, is a returning DBH Featured Artist from the “far far away” city of Mérida in the Yucatán state of Mexico. He teases that he discovered his style while “trying to copy the style of someone copying the style of other artists” and it was only through multiple iterations that he finally discovered his own unique approach. His eclectic and uplifting designs are inspired by the world around him, whether it’s a stranger passing on the street or a fleeting memory.
He jokes that his artwork “can reach a point where they stop liking me.” However, once he feels like the art simply doesn’t like him anymore, he takes time away to refocus and regroup his thoughts. He confesses that a motivating factor in his creative pursuit is to be “recognized as an artist by other artists.” However, he believes that a “positive and real reaction is the best compliment” that he could ever receive for his art.
