Featured Artist: LuckyU
LuckyU’s designs are the perfect reminder of a simpler time. Her artwork – complete with a vintage flare and a throwback style – helps her audience recall summer days building sandcastles and the feel of the sand between their toes.
LuckyU, or Susanne, currently lives in Münster, Germany but she has been lucky enough to work and travel all over the world. Her previous travel experiences influenced her artwork and they continue to inspire destination-themed graphics and the overall sense of adventure and excitement in her work.
Susanne finds inspiration from the world around her; however, she confesses, “I love the sea, I love whales and love spending time by the ocean and in nature.” In fact, she most recently purchased a lino print by Yoko Isami entitled “Makin' Waves Whale” that highlights the sense of freedom and mystery that she loves about the ocean.
Susanne shares that her biggest goal is to “find my recognizable style” and jokes that in order to do that she must “do more art and when there is time, do more art.” She doesn’t consider herself a true artist because “I’m still learning new things every day.”
Nonetheless, she is a creative person and – in addition to her digital art – she also loves to experiment with different mediums like photography and painting as well. She encourages herself to take advantage of local artists’ workshops, tutorials, books and more because as a “self-taught graphic designer” she is “still in the process soaking up knowledge” and her style is developing every day.
