ReleasethePhoenix’s art — with its skeletons breathing neon gases, absurd creatures, and oddly-colored nature — is like discovering the scattered relics of a post-apocalyptic world. Although ReleasethePhoenix jokes that his dreams are so “weird and chaotic that I wouldn’t know how to make it into art” his designs have a hauntingly dreamlike quality, nonetheless.

ReleasethePhoenix enjoys using his iPad Pro to design art because all he needs to draw is “a nice firm pillow with some music” and he feels ready to create. However, he also enjoys oil painting and looks forward to trying 3D modeling, making figurines, and mastering concept art as well.

He believes it is important to “have fun, be colorful, don’t let anything beat you down” and he works to incorporate this attitude into his own art. In fact, he is intrigued by artists who also follow this mantra. He loves the Spanish surrealist artist, Salvador Dali — especially his work entitled The Elephants — because of the way his work is such a stark departure from reality and is completely his own.

When he can’t find the encouragement to create art then he often finds himself just “drawing circles” instead. ReleasethePhoenix finds inspiration from “geeky stuff and digital gaming art” and admits that he’d enjoy living in the fictional world, Azeroth, from the World of Warcraft series.

He admits that being able to fly (and fast!) would be a great way to inspire creativity because it allows you to be “fluid and loose.” He encourages others to always be fluid and “don’t sell out. Don’t get stuck in ONE thing because it is so hard to change and break that cycle.”
