Kapotka admits that her store has two distinct elements: “first there are cute patterns in saturated colors and then there are funny prints.” Whichever element you find yourself more drawn to, audiences cannot help but agree that it leaves them feeling more upbeat, more adventurous, and ready for anything that life might throw at them. The positive messages and the brightly-colored patterns leave you feeling like the world is a warmer and more inviting place.

Kapotka, from Ireland, shares that her creative process began with sewing clothes and accessories. However, she eventually began to create her own patterns on fabrics and then she branched out by putting her patterns on stationary, phone cases and more. She admits, ”what interested me most about designing patterns is drawing bold, geometric shapes and then filling the rest of the space with color.”

Her philosophy of “more is more” pushes her to never hold back; it is easier to edit down rather than trying to rekindle the creative magic after it has been lost. She creates her designs by first sketching on paper or by using paper cutouts and then she transfers it to a digital medium. Once the original has been transferred, she plays around with repeating elements to create her fun and unique patterns.

Kapotka is encouraged to design nature patterns because of the “lush green forests and dense greenery” around her. However, she is especially inspired by vintage children’s storybooks and the bright art used in folklore and fairy tales. She admits that when she was growing up she was surrounded by the bright imaginative designs from folklore on ordinary items — like kitchen linens — and she appreciates that “functional everyday objects can be beautiful and can add another dimension to our lives.” This belief pushes her to make patterns that can motivate and entertain us in our everyday lives.
